Motorcycle License & Permit
Procedure for obtaining your motorcycle license ('M' Endorsement)
There are two ways to obtain your motorcycle license. One is to take a certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Massachusetts Rider Education Program (MREP) approved course. The other is to take a road test administered by the Massachusetts RMV.
Our
MSF Basic RiderCourse (BRC)
is a Massachusetts Rider Education Program (MREP) approved motorcycle safety course.
Do you need a motorcycle permit to take our MSF Basic RiderCourse (BRC)?
If your goal is to get licensed then yes. We recommend you obtain your motorcycle learners permit before taking our course. If you have your Massachusetts motorcycle learners Permit and successfully complete our BRC, you will receive your Massachusetts motorcycle license in the mail within 21 business days. This will be mailed to you by the MA RMV. Please note your new license will be mailed to the address the registry has on file.
How to obtain Massachusetts Motorcycle License/Permit?
We recommend all students take the Motorcycle Learners Permit test before taking one of our courses,
MSF Basic RiderCourse (BRC)
.
You can take our course with or without a Motorcycle Learners Permit. You can take the Motorcycle Learners Permit test within 90 days after taking our course to obtain your motorcycle license in Massachusetts.
Answer these simple questions
and we will guide you through the licensing process based on your individual case.
What do I have to do after completing the course?
You are responsible to track your license by looking at your online profile to see if your motorcycle license been processed or why it has not. Your license will issue automatically if you have no requirements that need to be met. If you owe the RMV money, have not verified your lawful presence, or are not in good standing with the RMV your motorcycle license will not issue automatically. You will be able to verify this information online and resolve most pending requirements holding up your license issuance. You can access your profile from MYRMV site using the Access My Profile Button by clicking on this link:

What if I am a Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine or Vermont resident? Can I take your course?
Yes, you can. These are reciprocal states meaning they honor MA approved motorcycle safety courses. Check with your home state RMV for learners permit specifics. After you successfully complete our BRC, you will be provided with a certificate of completion which you are responsible to bring to your local DMV within 90 days for licensing.
Unfortunately at this time, New York and Connecticut DO NOT recognize Massachusetts certificate of completion.
Do I need my own motorcycle to take the Basic RiderCourse (BRC)?
No, you don't. MSF Basic RiderCourse requires you to use our bikes. We are using Honda Nighthawks (250cc) and Honda Rebels (250cc).
Do I need my own motorcycle to take the Basic RiderCourse 2 - License Waiver (BRC2-LW) or Skill Practice (BRC2-SP)?
Yes, you do. You have to be on your own motorcycle.
What must I wear and bring?
Long-sleeve shirt or jacket
Long pants (heavy denim or riding pants recommended)
Over-the-ankle boots (sturdy, NOT canvas)
Eye protection (sunglasses, full-face helmet with visor is okay)
Full-finger gloves
No exposed skin or ripped clothing
*** We provide 3/4-face helmets ***
Can I bring my own helmet?
Yes, you can. It must be a DOT approved helmet.
If I am under 18 can I take the course?
Yes, you can. You will need a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. JOL (Junior Operator’s License) requirements must be met before you are eligible for licensing.
