Foot Position

A small detail can lead to a major accident. When shifting into a corner, riders may accidentally engage the gear shifter or rear brake.

I want to discuss a minor detail that many riders overlook, yet it's a common cause of unintened accidents: foot positioning.

I often see both novices and veterans resting their left foot directly over the gear lever. Ideally, your feet should be centered on the pegs. If you're leaning into a left-hand turn with your foot over the shifter, you risk an accidental downshift. A sudden engine-braking jerk mid-corner is enough to cause a crash.

The right side is even more critical. Resting your foot on the rear brake pedal is a dangerous habit; unintentional pressure can lock the rear wheel and lead to a loss of control.
